SPACES APART DESIGN
Pulling from a variety of horticultural and cultural traditions, I work with individual clients or communities to build a gardens that both fit your needs for a livable space and your need for a quiet natural escape from daily life.
- The design process begins with an initial walk through your site to take measurements and discuss ideas. Then I combine your input with the limitations and benefits of your site to develop two design sketches and a selection of plants for you to review. From these, you give input on which design you like better and on other changes. At our next meeting, I show you the final design, including time and cost estimates.
- Once we have designed a garden, I'll move forward with you, helping you find a licensed contractor for the heavy construction work as well as overseeing the acquisition and placement of plants and materials. As a liaison between you and the contractor, I work to ensure that the design remains true to both your aesthetic and budgetary concerns.
- The last ingredient in any living art is time. I provide landscape maintenance that is a continuation of the ideals of my designs. I strongly believe that designers need to stay in touch with their gardens in a real, hands-in-the-soil way.
Building a garden is a journey. As your designer, I make sure to maintain physical contact with the garden through maintenance and to maintain contact with you in order to help your garden grow as you grow, adjusting the design to fit your changing life.
In today’s hectic world, people need a space apart for reflection and retreat, and I want to help you grow those spaces. I see my gardens as living art that changes over time as it grows and as the people who visit them grow.
